All of my reconditioned Yamaha U3 and U1 pianos have a full set of brand new bridle tapes. Most UK piano shops seem to be neglecting this tast. In my opinion they should be replaced on any Yamaha U3 or U1 that is around 30 years old or more.
You can spot brand new bridle tapes quite easily because the main cotton section will be brilliant white and the vinyl tip will be brilliant red. Original bridle tapes are certain to be off-white and may even be a grubby browny yellow.
I’ll add some photos to this page to show the difference between old and new bridle tapes. The photos should help you know where to look when you are visiting piano shops.
