Comments:
This antique Bechstein grand piano has a very attractive case in a nice rosewood veneer. The case is in very good condition with just an occasional spot of minor damage. The ivory keys are in good physical condition but suffering from moderate “yellowing”.
The legs are probably not original but the lyre looks like it might be. The metal frame is the older 3/4 length design and is painted an attractive black colour with a quite rare style of embossed lettering on it (see photos)
The soundboard seems to be in good condition with no obvious damage or wear. See photos for soundboard condition.
The pinblock seems to be in very healthy condition with no visible cracks or stresses. The hammers look good too. The damping system (stops the notes ringing on) is working well.
The tone is not particularly pretty at the moment but it is certainly a very lively and powerful sound. It just needs refining in the hands of a technician who can voice the hammers to sound a little more sophisticated. Some general action regulation would also be beneficial to improve the overall feel of the piano.
The reason this piano is entitled “Bechstein Model A Equivalent” is because I couldn’t find an actual model number printed on the piano but the closest model I could find is the Model A which is 6ft long (1 inch longer than this piano).
You are welcome to come and view this piano or arrange for a piano technician to come and write a report on it for you.
