Kawai KG-1C Baby Grand Piano for sale

Notes from Mark & Julie

My basic summary of this piano is that it is a very high quality piano in great conition having only 1 owner since it was made. Kawai make great pianos that feel just right and have a perfectly balanced tone (not too bright, not too mellow). If you need a high quality piano and have space for a 5ft grand piano I highly recommend this piano to you – it may just knock your socks off (and I don’t use such phrases lightly)

  • Really good piano. Highly Recommended

Comments:

Kawai grand pianos are very fine instruments. They are quite scarce on the used market but when they do become available I often find them to be at least equal to Yamaha grands and quite often they are superior. This particular Kawai is of the highest quality in piano manufacturing. Many regard these as superior to the equivalent Yamaha grands which can sometimes sound a little TOO bright. Kawai on the other hand tend to sound closer to the Steinway sound, being slightly more understated but richer in tone (this is all just opinion of course).

This piano is 5ft in length and 4ft 11 3/4in in width. It has 88 keys and the action feels great to play. The tone is also of a very high standard being strong and rich but not too bright.

The pinblock/wrestplank seems to be in perfect condition and the piano is holding its tune very well since it was delivered here. The hammers and dampers are all in truly brilliant condition

The strings are in excellent condition and are producing a very high quality sound.

I think it is a shame that Yamaha pianos are so much more popular than Kawai pianos in this country. This doesn’t reflect any kind of quality difference, it just shows that Yamaha have had a more successful marketing and PR campaign through the decades that have made them the current #1 choice of piano. If people would actually judge Kawai’s on their own merits alongside Yamahas they would find them to compare very favourably. In fact it would be good for the UK piano industry as a whole if Kawai could gain some of they ground they have lost to Yamaha. I stocked a Kawai KG-2C recently and it was an outstanding piano and I was thrilled to see it get sold to a piano teacher. I hope this KG-1C will be bought by someone in similar need of a great piano at a budget price.

If you need a small grand piano and would like a really high quality instrument for a reasonable price, I recommend that you consider this one. It has only had 1 owner since it was made and as soon as I get aroud to dusting it, it will look almost as good as new.
